With porcelain veneers, you can address all kinds of cosmetic issues with your front-facing teeth to achieve a brighter, more beautiful smile than ever before. If you’re interested in learning about this procedure and all of its benefits, keep reading for all you need to know.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are a way to improve the appearance of your front-facing teeth using a set of thin porcelain shells. These shells are permanently bonded to the teeth through a simple, minimally invasive procedure.

Veneers can also be made out of other materials, such as composite resin, but porcelain offers greater strength, increased durability, and a more natural look, which makes it the ideal veneer material.

What Can Porcelain Veneers Fix?

Porcelain veneers can fix many different issues with your front-facing teeth. The most significant among them include:

  • Small chips in the teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Asymmetrical smile
  • Unevenly spaced teeth
  • Tooth gaps
  • Smaller teeth
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Unusually shaped teeth
  • And more

Porcelain veneers are a strictly cosmetic procedure, meaning they’re only designed to improve the appearance of your teeth, not to improve your oral health.

If you have sustained significant damage to a tooth, have a tooth that is decayed, or have lost a tooth entirely, you’ll most likely need a dental restoration instead of a cosmetic procedure such as veneers.

Am I a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers can work wonders for restoring the self-confidence of just about anyone experiencing cosmetic issues with their front-facing teeth, but not everyone is a perfect candidate for the procedure.

Sometimes the best option is a simpler, non-invasive treatment like teeth whitening. Other times, the dental issue is too severe for porcelain veneers to address. In this case, you may need to opt for orthodontic treatment or a surgical procedure to restore your smile.

If you think porcelain veneers might be able to help restore your smile and improve your self-confidence, reach out to Scottsdale Dental and Facial Aesthetics today and schedule your free consultation. We’ll be able to determine whether you’d be a good fit for porcelain veneers.

They Look and Feel Natural

Your porcelain veneers will be custom-made to suit your appearance, and they’ll be color-matched to your existing teeth to make them look as natural as possible. Porcelain, in particular, has a very similar look to natural teeth when compared to other materials used to create veneers, so you know your new smile will be virtually indiscernible from the real thing.

The Procedure Is Simple and Easy

Many people experience dental anxiety in some form or another. If that’s the case for you, we understand how it may be easy to avoid going to the dentist for strictly cosmetic purposes.

But you don’t need to live with a smile you’re not proud of just because of your fear. The procedure to apply porcelain veneers is minimally invasive, fairly quick, and totally painless. You may not even require local anesthetic.

They’re Easy to Maintain

Porcelain veneer maintenance is no different from maintaining your natural teeth. Brush twice a day, floss once a day, and come see us for your routine exam and cleaning once every six months. Your brand-new smile will stay beautiful for many years to come.

In fact, the porcelain that the veneers are made from is more resistant to decay than your natural teeth!

They Can Help You Avoid Tooth Discoloration

Even the most dedicated tooth brushers and flossers can experience tooth discoloration as they advance in age, which can result in repeated trips to our office for teeth whitening treatments.

As much as we like to see you, the truth is that in certain circumstances the better option for keeping your teeth bright and white is to choose porcelain veneers. They’re far more resistant to staining and discoloration than natural teeth are.

They Can Boost Your Self-Confidence

It’s no secret that issues with your teeth can lead to issues with your self-esteem. Feeling as if everyone is staring at you any time you smile — and not in a good way — can make it difficult to get through the day.

Porcelain veneers can put an end to that by providing you with a bright, beautiful smile that you’ll be proud to show off every chance you get.

The Porcelain Veneers Procedure

If you’ve decided that porcelain veneers may be right for you, you’re probably wondering what that procedure entails. To help you with that, we’ve created this basic breakdown of what you can expect when it comes time for your procedure.

Step 1: Consultation

Before you can receive your veneers, you’ll need to see us for a consultation to ensure that porcelain veneers are the best choice for you. It’s not hard to qualify for porcelain veneers, but there are a few factors to consider.

One major factor is that you must have enough tooth enamel on the teeth you want to improve. Another is that you must have good oral health. Finally, if your teeth are too crooked, you’ll likely have to consider another type of procedure instead.

Step 2: Preparing for the Veneers

If the consultation goes according to plan, your next step is to prepare your teeth to receive the veneers and then create a mold so that the veneers can be customized for you.

Preparing your teeth requires that they be filed down a bit so that the veneers can fit comfortably over them. This process involves the numbing of your mouth, so you won’t feel any of the filing.

Once your teeth have been prepped, we’ll create the mold to be sent off to a lab where your porcelain veneers will be custom-made. This process should take somewhere between one and two weeks. In the meantime, you’ll be given temporary veneers.

Step 3: Applying the Veneers

When your customized veneers arrive, you’ll return to our office to have them bonded to your teeth. We use a special dental cement that is dried using a UV light that makes the process much quicker. After that, small adjustments can be made if necessary, but otherwise, you and your shiny new smile will be ready to go.
